The incredible sensation that was Fifty Shades of Grey is about to unleash its second filmed installment upon the world. Fifty Shades Darker continues the sultry love affair between Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. The first teaser has been released. Give it a watch.

The story picks up immediately after the first film. Ana has broken off her relationship with Chrisitan and is trying to forge ahead with her career. However, Christian continues to interject himself into her life until they come to a new arrangement. As Ana lets herself back into Christian’s life, more details about his past begin to emerge that forever change the way Ana sees him.

The book series was a phenomenal success and so was the first film. However, the noise around the franchise has died a little. Will this new adaptation reinvigorate the series? Fifty Shades of Grey released on Valentine’s Day weekend in 2015 and opened with an $85 million take. It eventually went on to make over $570 million worldwide. That kind of a success is not something to write off.

The immediate appeal of the franchise is obviously its kinky nature, but the sequels begin to focus less on that aspect. Will the more romantic elements disinterest audiences who were looking for something a little more transgressive? Or are the strength of the characters what really pulls people in? The series has a very motivated fanbase, so it’s clear that there is more to this world than simple sexual fascination. If that was all, it probably wouldn’t have the staying power it has had.

We’ll find out if Fifty Shades Darker can recapture the success of its predecessor when it opens on February 10. Too bad that Valentine’s Day doesn’t fall on a weekend this year. In the meantime, enjoy this new poster that alludes to one of the important sequences from the novel.
