Guillermo del Toro’s work as a creative powerhouse is unparalleled. The man is a master filmmaker, producer, writer, visionary and overall genius. From his movies to his stories and concepts, Guillermo del Toro is by far one of the world’s most unique cinematic voices and he is definitely one of the most interesting imagineers around.

Today we have been given a first look into his newest project. Developed by DreamWorks, Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters is an upcoming release available on Netflix later on this year. The property is set to premiere as a new original series and will be geared towards the whole family. This teaser image alone looks exciting.

I love how this is put together. The backlit partially silhouetted characters set under what appears to be a city bridge look to be ready for action. The beast creature is a goofy yet beastly figure that looks like a distant cousin of Sulley from Monsters Inc. and the kid is outfitted with armor and gear that looks like it was put together using Iron Man, Mega Man, Mad Max and Cloud from Final Fantasy VII as influences.

Guillermo del Toro will be speaking at the Annecy Festival this year in France and will be conducting a masterclass prior to revealing debut footage from Trollhunters. He is expected to reflect on his incredible career ranging from his first creative efforts leading up to his work as a filmmaker and beyond. With films like Crimson Peak, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Devil’s Backbone, Pacific Rim and the Hellboy movies, this will surely be an event to remember for fans lucky enough to be in attendance.

Trollhunters is described as a fantastic journey into a vast world of imagination and intrigue. The residents of a small city suburb called Arcadia find themselves face to face with creatures from a subsurface realm of wonder and possibly danger. If the look of the teaser image is any indication, Trollhunters will be filled with fun and interesting monsters and action that will be cool and imaginative. We can’t wait.
