Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could very well be the most anticipated Marvel movie since The Avengers. The sci-fi adventure film was a smash hit with audiences and helped turn a ragtag group of obscure comic book characters into major players in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Director James Gunn brought something truly special to the table with his take on Star-Lord and crew, and fans are anxious to see what else he has up his sleeve. Well, today gives us a taste of what’s to come.

Gunn released the first poster for the film today via his Twitter account. Take a gander at this beauty.

How rock and roll is that? You can easily imagine this hanging up in a high school teenager’s bedroom. It evokes the kind of attitude that a lot of Marvel marketing often lacks. This is definitely punk album cover material. It’s worth noting that Yondu and Nebula are both prominent players now. Will they be officially joining the Guardians in their adventure? That’s fine by this fan; Michael Rooker and Karen Gillan were fantastic in the first film and more of them is so welcome. And hey, look at little baby Groot hanging out on Star-Lord’s leg! That little guy is going to be a merchandising goldmine.

You also have to give it up for the cocky tagline. One of Guardians of the Galaxy‘s greatest strengths was how funny it was. “Obviously,” continues that tradition of snarky, self-aware humor that the first film nailed. Gunn has been one of the few Marvel directors to really put his distinct stamp on his film, and this looks to be even more in-your-face and anarchic than the last film.

And if that’s not all filmmaker, James Gunn has given fans a sneak peek at the film’s first trailer which is due out, we think, in the next few days.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 releases on May 5 next year. Yeah, you know that thanks to the poster. Keep your eyes peeled for the first trailer when Doctor Strange hits theaters.
