Square just can’t get enough of Final Fantasy VII. Or at least, they can’t get enough of the money they make from it. Set to release is a licensed Monopoly edition, currently titled Final Fantasy VII Monopoly, and is now available for preorder on Merchoid for $49.99/£34.99/€51.99.
As one of the FF fans whose favorite game in the series is not VII (though it is in my top five), I am a bit envious that my favorite games (Either VI, IX or XII) get passed over in favor of a game that has been so overrepresented.
Final Fantasy VII is the biggest cash cow in the series. Since it’s the most popular title it has had a ton of merchandise already released for it. There have been seven spinoff games, a film, an anime, several series of novellas, a novel, and soon, a remake. That’s before taking into account the dozens of times characters from the game have made appearances in other Final Fantasy spinoff titles.
Monopoly is ubiquitous, having lent its branding to everything from college teams to television shows to fantasy novels, so it isn’t surprising to see a Final Fantasy version of the game. I’m curious to see how the board will play out. Which lore, locations, and characters will make an appearance?
