EA Sports has announced that Real Madrid and Portugal star, Cristiano Ronaldo, is the new FIFA 18 cover star. He’ll feature on the cover of this year’s edition of the game, but a special FIFA 18 ‘Ronaldo Edition’ will also be released alongside the standard edition.

The Portuguese forward’s involvement with FIFA 18 goes as far as EA Sports taking a motion capture studio to Madrid to analyse his techniques, record his acceleration, trademark running style and shooting skills.

“It is a real pleasure to be on the cover of FIFA 18,” said Ronaldo in a statement. “It’s a great feeling and I am grateful to have been chosen.”

But that hasn’t stopped fans feeling rather divided on EA Sports’ choice of FIFA 18 cover star, with gamers taking to Twitter to express their elation or malcontent.

The FIFA 18 release date is set for September 29, which is in line with every other FIFA release date like ever.

Anyone who pre-orders the special editions of FIFA 18 will get access to Ronaldo for their Ultimate Team as part of a five-game loan. You’ll also get three days of early access to the game ahead of release.

“The world’s best player has helped fuel the biggest leap forward on the pitch that we’ve ever delivered,” said Aaron McHardy, Senior Producer on FIFA 18. “We’re extremely excited to partner with Cristiano – working with him we learned a lot about his unique play style and what makes him so special.

“His passion, energy and global fanbase make him the perfect ambassador for FIFA 18.”
