And here’s everything we learned in the trailer…

Fantastic Beasts is set in New York City in 1926, 70 years before the events of Harry Potter.

The story follows magizoologist Newt Scamander, a character J.K. Rowling created as part of the Potter backstory. His book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them became a standard textbook for students at Hogwarts.

The American version of the Ministry of Magic is known as the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA). It was first established in 1693 as a direct result of the Salem Witch Trials.

Characters like Gnarlack the goblin, played by Ron Perlman, were created using a combination of practical and digital effects.

There are over 20 magical creatures, like the Niffler, in the movie.

Jacob Kowalski is the first Muggle/No-Maj main character in the Wizarding World films. He is played by Dan Fogler, who learned how to speak with a historical Brooklyn accent.

Newt’s magical case is bigger on the inside, and features the beasts he has befriended and presumably built natural habitats for.

Mary Lou Barebone is head of the Second Salemers, a group dedicated to exposing the Wizarding community in America.

Colin Farrell is Percival Graves, Auror and Director of Magical Security for the MACUSA. He is tasked with investigating and tracking Newt down after his creatures escape.

Ezra Miller is Credence Barebone, a character rumored to have eventual significance in the Wizarding World. Credence is Mary Lou’s son and seems to have made a troubling alliance with Percival Graves.

President of the MACUSA Seraphina Picquery finds a connection to Gellert Grindelwald, a powerful Dark Wizard responsible for the death of Albus Dumbledore‘s sister, Ariana. The connection insinuates that a civil war is brewing inside the Wizarding community.

In J.K. Rowling’s stories, Porpentina Goldstein goes on to marry Newt Scamander. Their grandson, Rolf, is the husband of Luna Lovegood.

The movie takes place over the course of two days.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens on November 18.
