The upcoming Han Solo stand-alone film has found its first female cast member, and she’s as iconic as they come: Emilia Clarke. Clarke will star opposite Alden Ehrenreich (Han) and Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), as well as Chewbacca, Han’s Wookiee brother-in-arms.

Clarke is best known as Daenerys Targaryen, the Dragon Queen and exiled heir to Westeros from Game of Thrones. Game of Thrones fans will be excited since Clarke is another transplant to Star Wars, after Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth) became Captain Phasma for last December’s The Force Awakens. What kind of role might Clarke play? Let’s take a cursory look.

What Will Emilia Clarke’s Role Be?

The Han Solo film isn’t due out for another year and a half, so details are scant to none. The only confirmed characters are Chewbacca, Han, and Lando, likely with a supporting cast of all-new characters. As a result, there’s only a slim possibility that Clarke’s unannounced role will be a character from the Expanded Universe. (Perhaps Bria Tharen, Han’s love interest from The Han Solo Trilogy of novels?)

Clarke’s performance as Daenerys Targaryen has been nothing short of powerful. She’s been one of the show’s stars since its outset, and her character has gained a massive following. Nevertheless, it’s possible that her part in the Han Solo film will be closer to another well-known role of hers: the hardened Sarah Connor from 2015’s Terminator Genisys.

There are an endless amount of possibilities for Clarke’s character. All we know is that she will be part of the “dynamic cast of characters that Han and Chewie will encounter on their adventures.” Could she be a fellow scoundrel, or even an Imperial character who becomes a counterpoint to Han and Chewie? Maybe her character will even hold some sort of family relation to Han.

Whatever the case, there’s no going wrong with Emilia Clarke. In addition, there are rumors that if it’s successful enough, the film might morph into a full-fledged trilogy within the Anthology Series.
