‘Drag Race’: What Do Fans Really Think of The Vixen?

Spoiler alert: This post about The Vixen contains spoilers from the latest episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10. Proceed with caution.

After a season full of feuding and falling in the bottom, The Vixen has finally left the building.

The latest episode of Drag Race had the queens singing live in a Cher-themed musical that told the story of the legendary performer’s life. But after failing to connect with the judges as ’70s Variety Show Cher, Vixen lost to Asia O’Hara in the lip sync and was told to sashay away. (Ironically, after weeks of screaming that the controversial queen needed to get the boot for her unpolished outfits on the runway, I actually thought tonight was the best she’s ever looked.)

The Vixen entered the Season 10 workroom saying “I’m just here to fight,” so in that respect, she should be able to leave the show with her head held high because her mission was most definitely accomplished. Not a single episode went by without the Chicago queen yelling at another contestant.

Whether it was because she felt that they “poked the bear” and attacked her or because they admitted on the runway that she deserved to go home next, Vixen found plenty of reasons to get into arguments during her time on the show. And whether the fights were justified or not, the negative energy definitely sucked a lot of the fun out of the workroom.

Things really came to a head on last week’s Snatch Game episode after The Vixen hypocritically demanded Eureka change her personality, despite previously getting upset for being asked to do the same.

But for all her faults, the queen brought a lot of important issues to light during her time on Season 10. During a fight with Aquaria in an early episode of Untucked, she brought up the fact that black queens too often get painted as the villain on Drag Race for behaving the same way as their white counterparts, and she wasn’t wrong. The political queen shed a light on the issue of racism within the Drag Race fandom that had previously not been discussed on the show.

During her final episode, Vixen was pulled aside by Asia for a heart-to-heart chat, which allowed for another meaningful conversation about race and how pain from childhood can affect you as an adult. While you may not agree with the way Vixen went about expressing her feelings, she at least brought important issues to the table that were previously relegated to dark corners of Twitter.

But with the ability to stir up so many feelings in both the contestants and viewers at home, what did fans actually think of The Vixen? When she first called out the race issue in the aforementioned fight with Aquaria at the start of the season, many people praised the queen for being vocal about something that was so worthy of being discussed. But as the season progressed, many turned on her for her unwavering negativity and perceived hypocrisy.
