‘Drag Race’: How Do You Solve a Problem like Eureka?

Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers from Episode 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 10. Proceed with caution.

Eureka O’Hara is the charming comeback queen of Season 10. And to quote Tyra Banks, “I was rooting for you. We were all rooting for you!” But unfortunately, tonight, Eureka was not rooting for herself.

The Elephant Queen majorly got in her head throughout the episode, which landed her in the bottom two opposite Kalorie Karbdashian-Williams. And while she ultimately lip synced herself to safety, the whole ordeal was a little too close for comfort for Eureka fans.

It was also devastating to watch. Eureka is a loud presence in the workroom, but that’s because she exudes so much confidence in who she is and what she does. So to see her start to doubt herself and let fear seep into her brain was painful.

It all started when she was picked last for a team at the start of the episode, something that was frankly a little confusing. Eureka is the only queen on Season 10 that the other contestants have seen perform on Drag Race in the past, so they know she usually brings it in every challenge.

And yet, no one picked her for their team so she chose to be added to Asia’s group. (Side note: Mayhem was the second-to-last queen to be picked, but she was the winner of last week’s challenge. What was the criteria Vixen and Asia were using to make these team choices?)

Asia eventually explained that she didn’t choose Eureka because she talks too much. And after a montage of her interrupting Asia to give her two cents, it started to look like a valid point. But unfortunately, that was the catalyst that set Eureka on a downward spiral and deep into her head.

From then on, she struggled with her confidence during rehearsals, which were led by Season 5 superstar Alyssa Edwards (yay!), and started to get PTSD from her knee injury that occurred on this same episode last season.

By the time the main challenge came around — a musical number about the pharmaceutical industry — she was fully doubting herself and couldn’t remember any of the words.

And so, while Vixen was the winner of the week, Eureka’s self-doubt landed her at risk for elimination. Luckily, she snapped out of her funk just in time to really slay the lip sync to Emotions’ “Best of My Love” and remind the judges and the audience just why we love her.

She promised RuPaul that she wouldn’t let her down again, and we really pray that’s true. But to make it happen, she needs to shed her self-sabotaging thoughts and remember Fergie’s immortal words: Big Girls Don’t Cry.

You absolutely have what it takes to win the whole thing, Eureka. You just need to make sure you don’t forget it again.
