‘Disney Infinity’ No More

disney_infinity_twilight_of_the_republic

In a blog post today, Disney Interactive announced they will be bringing an end to the Disney Infinity franchise. The toys-to-life game still has two sets scheduled for release later this year, Alice in Wonderland Through the Looking Glass and Finding Dora, but has completely shuddered Avalanche Studios, the development team behind Disney Infinity. In their recent earnings report, the company partially attributes lower-than-expected Consumer Products earnings on poor sales of Infinity.

It’s a sad announcement for fans of the franchise, as well as the hundreds of developers losing their job today. Disney plans to license their characters, but have effectively stepped out of game development entirely. Those looking for alternatives to Disney Infinity can still find the toys-to-live genre alive and well with both Skylanders and LEGO Dimensions.
