With the viral hit of Pokémon Go, it’s no surprise that a live-action adaptation of the popular anime series would be in the works. As a result, Legendary Entertainment has acquired the live-action movie rights to the Pokémon franchise. Thus, we will see Pikachu and another popular Pokémon in the first film titled Detective Pikachu.

The First Film – Detective Pikachu

The first film will be about no other than the franchise’s mascot, Pikachu and is the main protagonist of the movie Detective Pikachu. The video game follows a talking Pikachu, who despite not being as powerful as the anime series Pikachu is rather intelligent and claims to be a great detective. One day, Pikachu encounters a boy named Tim Goodman, who can understand what he is saying. The two form a bond and together go around the city solving mysteries revolving around Pokémon in the city.

But, fans may not worry as Detective Pikachu has been fast for production in 2017. Accordingly, TOHO will distribute the film in Japan, while Universal Pictures will distribute the film outside of Japan.

Danny DeVito as Detective Pikachu

On top of the live-action Pokémon movie fans have petitioned to have Danny DeVito in the title role. While the legendary actor is not familiar with the franchise – doubt it now – that hasn’t stopped Pokémon fans and the internet from pitching It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star for the live-action adaptation.

While news of the first live-action Pokémon movie and fan casting – Detective Pikachu – are still coming out we can say that there many more films to come, if the popularity of Pokémon Go continues.
