Destiny 2: Forsaken is looking to turn Destiny multiplayer upside down with the introduction of the new Gambit Mode on September 4. This hybrid PVP and PVE mode blends two the gameplay components of Destiny for the first time ever. Teams fight waves of enemies, but they’ll always need to keep an eye out for the other team as well. Here are four ways that Gambit will evolve Destiny 2’s multiplayer.

Set the Stage

Gambit features two teams of four players competing against each other in both direct and indirect ways. Each team begins with teams staring each other down — allowing you to get off a few taunting emotes to start. Gambit then divides the teams into their own arenas. Guardians will face off against waves of enemies across three rounds with enemies gaining strength as the match persists. Each round culminates in the arrival of a Primeval that must be destroyed to win the round.

Collect, Collect, Collect

The first phase of Gambit is to collect motes by destroying enemies. Motes are deposited in a central bank by all players. A max of 15 motes can be carried at once, and if you die, you’ll lose them! Waves of enemies include normal and major types, with majors dropping more motes than normals. After a team has deposited 75 motes, the Primeval will spawn. But be careful: any deaths on your team will heal the boss and can hurt your chances of securing victory.

Prepare for Every Enemy

At the start of every Gambit Mode, a coin toss determines which enemies will spawn for that round. Whether it’s the Fallen, Hive, Vex, or Cabal, players will need to alter their tactics and loadouts to best clear enemy waves. These waves include normal enemies as blockers sent by the other team! When a team deposits 5, 10, or 15 motes at once, a powerful major will appear in the opponent’s arena, making it harder for them to complete their objective.

Invasion

Where is the PVP element you might ask? Once a team deposits 25 motes, they can send one player to invade the other team’s arena. Invaders are cast in spectral red and come powered up with buffs. Invaders have a short time to defeat the opposing teams and disrupt their mote collecting. Invaders can be sent over even during the final Primeval battle to make make the other team struggle even more! If both teams are facing off against Primevals at the same time, teams will have to choose whether to focus on their own or disrupt the enemy team.

Prepare to make your mark in Gambit when Destiny 2: Forsaken launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 4.
