Destiny 2: Forsaken, the game’s biggest expansion yet, is now available. For players looking to re-immerse themselves in Destiny 2 with Forsaken and its companion Year 2 update, what end-game changes can they expect alongside this new adventure? Let’s break them down.

Random Rolls Make a Return

The hunt for that perfect perk combination returns in Forsaken. That’s right: The random roll weapon system from the first Destiny have been introduced alongside all Year 2 weapons. New weapons have a variety of perks randomly assigned when you obtain them. Additionally, all Year 1 weapons have been retired from Destiny 2 and will no longer be obtainable after the launch of Forsaken. However, Guardians with Year 1 favorites like Better Devils or Nameless Midnight can infuse their weapons to Year 2 power levels.

A New Twist on the Weapon System

The Year 2 update also complete overhauls the weapon slot system. Rather than certain types always constrained to a particular slot, all weapons now have Kinetic, Energy, and Power versions that you can discover. That means you can now run with that Shotgun/Sniper Rifle/Rocket Launcher you’ve dreamed about in the Crucible, or switch up to three different shotguns to go up against a particularly nasty strike boss.

Modifying Weapon Mods

At launch, mods in Destiny 2 were generally limited to small increases in attack power or altering elemental damage types. Starting with Forsaken, mods include various weapon perks that can be attached to weapons. This vastly improves weapon customization and allows Guardians to hunt for that one specific mod to refine weapons to perfection. The best arsenal is a truly customized arsenal, and Guardians have more ways than ever to make weapons truly their own.

Ascending Masterworks Even Higher

The Masterwork system was a feature added midway through Year 1 that allowed Guardians to ascend their weapons to more powerful versions that provided higher stats. In Forsaken, Masterworks have evolved from one single upgrade to ten distinct upgrade tiers. Specific Masterwork tiers grant unique bonuses as well, such as kill tracking at Tier 7 and a masterwork emblem at max level, Tier 10.

The Allure of the Dreaming City

The Dreaming City is the homeworld of the Awoken and has been overrun with the Taken blight. It also serves as an end-game patrol area, filled with new adventures, public events, and questlines. Additionally, a brand-new raid awaits inside the city’s core, featuring more bosses of any other raid in Destiny history. As time goes on, the Dreaming City will evolve to offer new challenges, providing Guardians will plenty of incentive to return frequently.

Making Exotics Even More Exotic

The Destiny gear chase isn’t complete without new Exotic weapons and gear to collect, and the exotics in Destiny 2: Forsaken are more unique than ever, offering significant variations in gameplay. Want to coat the map with explosions? Seek out the Two-Tailed Fox, a rocket launcher that fires two rockets simultaneously. Want to easily track targets in PVP? Find the Wish-Ender, a bow that allows the user to see through walls and shots to penetrate through multiple targets. A few glimpses of Exotic Armor have been shown as well, including the Sixth Coyote, which grants its user a double dodge, and the Antaeus Wards boots, which reflect incoming projectiles when sliding.

Check out these new updates for yourself in Destiny 2: Forsaken, available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
