Some people think of summer as a time for pool parties and backyard barbecues, but for TV fans it’s simply the agonizing period of time in which they have to wait for their favorite CW shows to return from hiatus.
But thanks to some amazing CW panels at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we have sneak peeks at the upcoming seasons of some of our favorite shows, as well as casting news that hints at new characters heading our way.
Here is all the latest information about what we can expect when these five CW shows return this fall.
Riverdale
Returning: October 10 at 8 PM
While the trailer that played during the Riverdale Comic-Con panel (above) was mostly a recap of what went down in Season 2, the final moments did give us a sneak peek at what to expect when the show returns later this year. Aside from a getaway with the core four, it appears a major new storyline will find Alice and Polly taking part in a cult. So, just another day in Riverdale it seems.
In terms of casting news, Penelope Ann Miller will join the show as district attorney Ms. Wright who will face off against Archie in his murder trial. It was also revealed that we’ll eventually meet the women of Jughead’s family: his mother, Gladys, and his little sister, Jellybean. Those characters haven’t been cast yet, and aren’t scheduled to appear until around Episode 8 or 9 in Season 3.
Supergirl
Returning: October 14 at 8 PM
There’s a slew of new characters flying into Supergirl when it returns in October, including TV’s first transgender superhero. Trans activist Nicole Maines will be playing Dreamer, a “soulful” woman who will learn to fulfill her superhero destiny throughout the season. April Jones Parker will also be joining the cast as Colonel Haley, a military woman who follows any orders her commanding officers give her, even if it goes against her own best interest. And finally, David Ajala will recur as Manchester Black, a charming antihero based on the DC comic character. In addition to those three newbies, Supergirl is also adding previously announced series regulars Jesse Rath as Brainiac-5 and Sam Witwer as Agent Liberty.
The Flash
Returning: October 9 at 8 PM
When Barry Allen returns to our TV screens this fall, he’ll be facing off against a brand new big bad, Cicada. The DC villain was just a blue-collar average Joe until metahumans destroyed his family, causing him to become “the scourge of Central City” in order to get revenge on them all. Chris Klein has signed on to play Cicada, and we’ll see just how much destruction he causes when The Flash returns for a fifth season in October.
Arrow
Returning: October 15 at 8 PM
Season 7 of Arrow will find a bunch of new actors added to the cast in the form of the Longbow Hunters. The group of assassins will include Michael Jonsson as Kodak, a “beast of a man with brute force,” Holly Elissa as the “ruthless and precise killer” Red Dart, and Miranda Edwards as a stealthy assassin named Silencer. Bronze Tiger (Michael Jai White), Cody Runnels (Derek Sampson), and Danny “Brick” Brickwell (Vinnie Jones) will all be returning to face off against our titular hero as well.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow
Returning: October 22 at 9 PM
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is adding a few new faces to the cast in Season 4 alongside previously announced actors Ava Sharpe, Courtney Ford, and Matt Ryan. Ramona Young is on board as Alaska Yu, a series regular who is “something of an expert in the world of the magical creatures that the Legends encounter.” Meanwhile, Tom Wilson has a recurring role as Hank Heywood, Nate’s military father who is unable to know the truth about his son’s secret life as a superhero.
