The Best Thing About ‘Star Trek’ Was the Bras

Star Trek and Seth McFarlane’s new space-set comedy-drama series The Orville definitely have things in common. But never compare the two shows in front of the cast or they’ll have your guts for garters.

“Having been on Star Trek for four years, I have to say that I knew it wasn’t Star Trek,” said Penny Johnson Jerald to the press at New York Comic Con. “So every time someone would compare [The Orville] to Star Trek, I would not take offence but I would feel obliged to correct them. And say, ‘No, it really is something else’. It’s science fiction but it’s going to stand alone because it is indeed a dramedy, and it comes out of the mind of Seth McFarlane so it can’t possibly be Star Trek.”

And on the subject of underwear (garters?), Johnson swiftly turns her attention to bras when the subject of uniforms comes up. The actor played Kasidy Yates in Deep Space Nine and her abiding memory of the uniforms is of their miraculous undergarments.

Hanging Loose

“I have to tell you. One thing I loved about Star Trek? It’s no secret. I loved the uniforms. And the best part of the uniforms, ladies? It was the bra,” gushes Johnson Jerald. “I’m telling you, these bras were monster bras. You could have the worst-looking upper chest but, my darlings, when you put that uniform on, those babies stood up like a silver platter, and they were beautiful.”

FANDOM asked her if she managed to swipe any from the set.

“Absolutely! Did I? I own every bra I ever wore on Star Trek,” she replied. “They were just wonderful. They were very comfortable.”

However, the rest of the uniform wasn’t very forgiving, she remembers: “They didn’t have those Spanx then that you have now, [so] whatever was hanging loose was going to be hanging loose.”

You win some, you lose some. But what we want to know is, how can we get our hands on those bras?
