Shane Black’s Predator remake might have found its leading man: Benicio Del Toro. The Oscar winner is in negotiations to star in the long-gestating project, which is looking to start filming in early 2017. The good news: Del Toro is a fantastic actor. The better news: he will be just one of many stars in the movie. Color us intrigued.

The Hollywood Reporter says Black’s picture is an ensemble piece with many major characters. Del Toro would be the lead star however. But with Black and Del Toro involved, you can be sure that the rest of the cast will also be terrific. Who doesn’t want to work with Benicio Del Toro and Shane Black?

This news, if confirmed, will also make Predator fans happy. They were already looking forward to the project because Shane Black is writing and directing. While Black (who co-starred in the original Predator) has been making stellar comedies (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and The Nice Guys) lately, he got his start in the 80’s action scene. His work on Lethal Weapon and The Last Boy Scout is the stuff of legend. Adding Del Toro into the mix only sweetens the pot. This is a remake people actually want to see. Imagine that.

Del Toro: A Wanted Man

Del Toro has been in demand lately, especially in major blockbusters. He appeared as The Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy and will portray someone in Star Wars: Episode VIIIHe also has a Sicario sequel in the works. He’s one busy (and talented) man.

There’s a lot we want to know about Predator. How much of a remake will it be? Will it be tied to the original films or be a clean break from them? Will it be more of an action film or a horror film? Questions, questions, questions!

As with any remake, there are plenty of ways to screw this up. But we are very encouraged by those involved. Benicio Del Toro only makes us more excited. Suit up and go get him, Benicio.
