Tom Hardy is a beast. He’s an acting juggernaut as well as a physically imposing figure. He’s been cast in a number of genre projects like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Dark Knight Rises, but it looks like he’s going to be headlining another big potential franchise. Check out this tweet featuring Hardy in a Venom shirt. Already getting into the spirit!

Hardy has been cast as Eddie Brock a.k.a. Venom in… well, Venom. Hardy is certainly up to the task. He’s a fantastic actor and is definitely large enough to portray the hulking beast that is Venom. He’s definitely a much better choice than Topher Grace was. Yeesh.

Venom Has A Director As Well

He’ll be joined by director Ruben Fleischer, best known for his work on Zombieland. Sony has said that Venom will be an R-rated sci-fi/horror film, so it’ll be interesting to see what Fleischer can bring to the table in terms of horror. Strangely, his Zombieland writers, Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, recently wrote Life. That movie was actually rumored to be a Venom prequel at one point. They aren’t involved in Venom, but they are doing just fine as the screenwriters for Deadpool.

This level of prestige in casting has definitely turned Venom into a movie worth keeping your eyes on. It’s clear that Sony wants to do whatever they can to capitalize on their Spider-Man characters. Since Spidey is going to be playing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sandbox, it makes sense that Sony would try and get some substantial names to help boost their own attempt at a cinematic universe.

Sony Pictures is looking to crank the film out as quickly as possible. The release date is set for October 5, 2018. In the meantime, wanna watch a very different kind of Venom movie?
