Edgar Wright is one of the best filmmakers working today. He has yet to make a bad movie and it’s looking like he’s not going to break that streak anytime soon. His newest film, Baby Driver, premiered at SXSW and the crowd was in love with it. Shortly after, the first trailer dropped.

Get hyped, kids. This one looks like the real deal.

Baby Driver Is Gonna Be Great

Wright made a name for himself as a dynamic filmmaker and Baby Driver looks like it has that same energy. This looks like a great throwback car film. It’s not the cartoon craziness of the Fast & Furious franchise but it still has a wild charm to it. The verve that Wright brought to his more action-y films Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is here in full force.

And that cast! Wright has always had talented actors but this is an A-list ensemble. And you can bet that this is going to be a breakout picture for young lead Ansel Elgort (The Fault in Our Stars). He’s looking to be the kind of action star we don’t see anymore.

What’s really exciting is the soundtrack. The entire idea that the lead character, Baby, listens to music while he’s doing his getaways is perfect. Wright has always been a filmmaker that knows how to integrate his soundtrack with what’s going on in the film. This gimmick allows him to really cut loose and give us some spunky and toe-tapping numbers. And it’s great to see actual cars doing some amazing stunts. Not everything needs to be CGI.

If you’re a film fan, Baby Driver needs to be on your “must see” list of 2017. This is not going to be one to miss. Baby Driver will speed into theaters on August 11. It can’t get here any quicker.
