During San Diego Comic-Con 2016 Titan Comics revealed that they’d added the Assassin’s Creed: Awakening manga, an adaptation of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flagto their arsenal of comic book titles. However, they will not start from scratch as it will be an English translation of Takashi Yano and Kendi Oiwa’s previous work.

What the Assassin’s Creed: Awakening Manga Is About

The Assassin’s Creed world primarily revolves around the rivalry between two ancient secret societies: the Assassins and the Templar Order. The manga follows the young, cocky, and fearsome captain named Edward Kenway who travels the dangerous waters of the Caribbean, all the while rising in power as both a pirate and a member of the Assassins in The Golden Age of Pirates.

Edward Kenway is an important character in the Assassin’s Creed franchise as he is the father of Haytham Kenway, an Assassin traitor and Grand Master of the Templar Order’s Colonial Rite. But, he is also the grandfather to Ratonhnhaké:ton a.k.a. Connor Kenway, the hero of Assassin’s Creed III.

Titan Comics

The Assassin’s Creed: Awakening manga joins several other comics from Titan based on the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Their arsenal of comics also includes titles such as Doctor Who, Dark Souls, and many other adaptations of popular game, movie, and TV franchises.

While Titan Comics have not announced a release date for the manga, we are excited for this re-adaptation of one of the most successful video game franchises out there, especially since we have to wait until 2017 for the next official Assassin’s Creed game.
