The four-part crossover event between Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow – the “Arrowverse” as it’s known – has been an enormously anticipated event. Fans have been eager to see all of these shows connect and work together to tell one story. Now, with Supergirl on the CW, it’s happened. How has the event done with the ratings?
Excellent. Every show saw a significant increase in their ratings for this season. Supergirl nabbed 3.53 million viewers which is around a million more than any other episode in the show’s sophomore season. The Flash scored 4.15 million viewers. That’s the most the show has seen since its first season. The only episodes that did better were the first two episodes of the first season, “Flash vs. Arrow”, and “The Man in the Yellow Suit.” Arrow got a much-needed bump thanks to the crossover. The show has been in something of a slump after last season’s disappointing finale. The crossover helped Arrow a bunch, giving it some of the best ratings in the show’s history. It ended up with 3.52 million viewers. Legends of Tomorrow ended up with 3.33 million viewers, making it the most watched episode in that show’s entire run.
The Future
So, what does this mean for the future of the Arrowverse shows? Well, you might be seeing more crossovers than usual. Granted, these shows have done crossover episodes before and they’ve always proven successful when it comes to ratings. However, this event might get the studio to do less momentous crossovers that still get fans excited. Kara showing up to help Oliver Queen could happen more often now.
Probably the biggest takeaway for DC fans is that they finally have something they can be proud of when it comes to comparisons to Marvel. The current Marvel TV shows have been dragging their feet when it comes to crossovers. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is stuck out on its own over at ABC and the Netflix shows have been very slowly building up to The Defenders. They still have an entire show to get through – Iron Fist – before any big crossovers can happen. DC has been killing it when it comes to the TV side of things, and these ratings are proof of that. Show some pride, DC fans. You’ve earned it.
