Ant-Man and the Wasp is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to be released after Avengers: Infinity War. Like all other MCU films, it contains post-credits scenes that provide glimpses into the future of the franchise.

This article focuses on the first post-credits scene, which drops hints at the yet untitled Avengers 4.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp, the title characters team up to rescue Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the wife of Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and the mother of Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly).

Hope and Hank learn Janet may still be alive in the Quantum Realm.

Janet has been trapped in the Quantum Realm for three decades, after sacrificing herself to stop a Soviet nuke during a Cold War mission. With the aid of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Janet’s is successfully reunited with her family.

During her years trapped in the Quantum Realm, Janet learned many of its mysteries, including its powers of restoration. “This place, it changes you,” Janet explains. “Part of it is evolution.”

She uses her superhuman abilities to heal Ghost, a woman stuck in a state of molecular disequilibrium after being exposed to quantum energy.

At the end of the movie, Ant-Man embarks on the mission back to the realm via a quantum tunnel built in the back of Luis’ van. Hank, Janet, and Hope help Scott navigate from a station next to the van.

Scott goes subatomic and begins to collect quantum healing particles for Ghost, when communication cuts out. Cut to the real world, where fans see three pillars of dust disintegrating in the wind. The entire Pym-Van Dyne family falls victim to Thanos’ snap, which wipes out half of the living beings in the universe.

Janet warns Scott of the tardigrades ... and time vortexes.

As a result, Scott is trapped in the Quantum Realm … with no means of returning.

But all is not lost. Right before she disappears, Janet warns Scott about the time vortexes. What she meant as a warning, may actually end up saving him. We know that Ant-Man will be in Avengers 4, as production photos reveal Ant-Man alongside the team during the Battle of New York depicted in Avengers. Will Scott use the time vortexes in the Quantum Realm to find the Avengers in the past? Fans will find out when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.

The second post-credit is little more than a visual gag, with a giant ant playing Scott’s drums in his San Francisco home.

Ant-Man and The Wasp is currently in theaters.
