AMC Renews ‘Better Call Saul’ (Yes!)

Breaking Bad will go down as one of the best serialized dramas in all of American television history. There’s not going to be much debate about that. Will the same be said for its spinoff, Better Call Saul? We’ll have another season to find out thanks to AMC announcing a renewal order for the Emmy-nominated series starring Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show). Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould will return as co-showrunners for another ten episodes.

The story of Jimmy McGill’s change into Saul Goodman has been unbelievably compelling. The cold open to the season premiere, “Switch”,  which featured “Gene” — the identity Jimmy takes on after the events of Breaking Bad — was immensely moving. All the main characters have been changing and opening up in surprising ways (where my Kim Wexler fans at?), and the show hasn’t lost any of the tension that its predecessor was infamous for. While there’s certainly been a great balance when it comes to the more Breaking Bad elements (like the returning character on this past week’s episode), it’s been the interpersonal drama and astounding character work from the entire cast that has put Better Call Saul on par with its parent show.

If you aren’t watching Better Call Saul, we here at Fandom very strongly recommend that you do. It’s one of the best shows currently on television and with a third season now guaranteed, it’s probably going to stay that way. If you just need a primer to get you up to speed for the new season, we’ve got you covered. Would you like to know what a “squat cobbler” is? You got it. Trust me, you’ll be in hysterics once you know. Better Call Saul airs Mondays at 10/9c on AMC.
