‘It’s Always Sunny’ Debuts Filthy NSFW Trailer

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is frequently offensive and envelope-pushing. Over the course of the series’ eleven seasons, the gang have been through every imaginable kind of hell. Last season even ended with “The Gang Goes to Hell“. Part of what makes Sunny so great is its unabashed lack of political correctness. The gang are awful people with awful friends who do awful things. With a recent move from FX to FXX, the antics have ramped up a notch. The vulgar, NSFW trailer for season 12 gives a good hint as to just how ridiculous the season will be:

The gang starts it off by saying they need to get back on TV and change the narrative. This is likely in reference to a handful of bad publicity moments the gang’s had. The most damning was Dennis’ complete meltdown on “Family Fight“, but each gang member has their own moments of public infamy. The bar is known within the scope of the series as one of the worst in Philly, so maybe they’re trying to change that. Then again, they’re instantly back to using coarse language.

Apparently Dennis, Dee, and Frank are going on a talk show this season, which won’t end well for anyone. Frank is the only one who looks happy to be there, but that’s typical Frank. There’s also the return of “Fight Milk“, Charlie and Mac’s get-rich-quick scheme from season 8. It’ll be interesting to see if they use the same VHS tape that they’ve been recording over for the show’s duration – those segments are always great because of the tiny callbacks to early seasons.

Rickety Cricket is back and getting the gang high on PCP. There isn’t much else to say about that, but there are also several sequences of the owners of Paddy’s snorting white powder. Dennis and Dee are both former crack addicts, Charlie huffs things and occasionally “drinks straight paint“, and Frank’s nose was a vacuum for cocaine at one point. The members of the gang don’t need any help getting messed up, but apparently Cricket is going to try. Maybe it’s revenge for just how horribly they derailed his life, or maybe he’s finally just gone completely insane.

The one-minute long trailer is loaded with quick cuts, but a few other moments of note:

  • Mac finally accepted his homosexuality and came out to the gang at the end of last season. There’s a shot of him hamming it up at a male strip club, so it appears he’s still out and proud.
  • Frank announcing that he “has AIDS” to cut through long waterpark lines is typical Frank Reynolds behavior. Also – why is Charlie wearing a full wetsuit?
  • There will be some sort of prostitution/stripping episode, with Mac and Dennis doing nasty things for cash. This may be tied to Dennis watching footage of the guys coming out from behind a colored curtain – the whole thing screams Magic Mike. Dennis is even doing a bit of his Mcconaughey thing. Alright alright alright.
  • While it isn’t directly shown in the trailer, Charlie Day has confirmed that season 12 will have a full musical episode.

Speculation aside, there’s one simple fact that Sunny fans nationwide can agree on:

January 4th can’t come soon enough!
