Riding the wave of success from 11, 12 and 13, the Ocean’s series is back in production with Ocean’s 8. This is especially relevant as they have taken a page from the Ghostbusters franchise and the new film will feature an all-female gang. Yes, we must say goodbye to George Clooney and Brad Pitt. The new cast, however, is full of A-list star power.

Mainstream stars from the entertainment community highlight the new cast

First, Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock signed on. Later we learned that Helena Bonham Carter and Anne Hathaway were joining and they seem to fit well in the cast. They next added musicians Rhianna and Awkwafina (yes, that’s a real person, real name Nora Lum) to bring musical fans to the mix. Finally, Mindy Kaling inked her contract and is kind of the wild card.

From this list, it appears that the cast will compete with the Clooney-Pitt-Damon juggernaut from the previous films. It is also clear that there will be one more actress to fill the bill for the Ocean’s 8 title. With this in mind, let’s speculate on who might be the final member.

Natalie Portman

Portman would meet the star-power criteria – she has multiple Oscars and is able to draw a diverse audience. She has a great fanbase too, from well-known properties like Star Wars, Thor, and V for Vendetta.

However, due to her desire to spend time with her family, she is very selective about the films she chooses and works on a limited basis. This may mean that she would pass on taking a role in Ocean’s 8.

Jennifer Lawrence

Is there anyone more popular these days? With her Hunger Games and American Hustle experience, J-Law is clearly a great fit. Her movie history makes her well suited for this type of film and would make it a must-see.

Amy Adams

There are very few roles that Amy Adams can’t play. She is versatile and, consequently, can fit in any role that needs filling. Given her versatility, it is equally feasible for her to play a leader Brad Pitt-like character as it would be for her to play a lesser role like Casey Affleck’s Virgil Malloy.

Scarlett Johannson

She’s tough and beautiful and her resume for action and intrigue might trump any of the other ladies on this list. Scarlett also brings mainstream fans because of her role as Black Widow in the Avengers movies. Unfortunately, she has a fairly full upcoming schedule and might not be able to fit in the shooting schedule.

Others deserving consideration here include Jennifer Connelly, Emily Blunt, and Jessica Chastain.

Ocean’s 8 starts filming in October.
