Sitting down to share a pot of tea with somebody can lead to all sorts of interesting conversations. It doesn’t have the same intoxicating effects of alcohol, and the caffeine rush isn’t as strong as coffee, so you can sit there drinking tea for hours and hours on end.

Tea is like video games in many ways. You’ve got the casuals who use tea bags for convenience, much like casual gamers who may prefer games that are more accessible. Then there are the pros gamers who have the latest consoles or high-end gaming PCs, or in the case of tea, they’ll steep loose-leaf teas at just the right temperature for the superior taste even if it takes a little extra effort.

So, what happens when the worlds of video games and a good old-fashioned cup of tea cross paths? We take a look at some of the wisest, quirkiest, most interesting, or just the strangest video game characters and mentors from all of gaming history and wonder what it might be like to share a pot of tea and have a chat with them.

Lara Croft

Lara Croft has ventured through some of the world’s most prolific tea-drinking countries like India, China, and Japan. As the daughter of the archaeologist Lord Richard Croft, Ph.D. and artist Lady Amelia Croft, as well as being a life-long thrillseeker, there’s no doubt that she has an endless array of incredible stories to share. And given Lara Croft is English, chances are she would likely appreciate a spot of Earl Grey and knows how to brew a perfect pot of tea (or at the very least, her butler does).

GLaDOS

Enjoying a pot of tea with GLaDOS from the Portal games is perfect for times when you don’t want to have to carry the conversation. The possible risks would be well-worth it for an extra hour or two of banter with GLaDOS, even if you must dodge a few lasers every now and then. She also promises there will be cake, so that’s always a bonus.

Witch Doctor

Tea is celebrated in many cultures for its healing properties, so there’s no doubt that one of a Witch Doctor from the World of Warcraft franchise would have an interesting assortment of teas to try. Who knows what rare flowers and herbs would show up in their tea, mixed in with classics like Echinacea or Mint?

KK Slider

If we’re going to go for it, we might as well go all-in and sip tea while K.K. Slider, the guitar-playing dog from Animal Crossingserenades us with his favorite songs. Why is he on the list? Because why wouldn’t you want to drink tea while a dog plays guitar for you?!

Phoenix Wright

Phoenix-Wright

Phoenix Wright, from the Ace Attorney games, is razor-sharp and all business in the courtroom, but easy-going and silly outside of it. This would be a good opportunity to ask all those burning legal questions you’ve been wondering, like: does it still count as bank robbery if you’re wearing a fake mustache?

Gentleman Cho’Gath

This League of Legends character wears a monocle and a top hat — what else do you need to know? He’s a fancy guy who appreciates the finer things in life. While he probably prefers Scotch than a pot of tea, it’s worth a shot none the less. We’re not exactly sure what to expect from sharing a pot of tea with Gentleman Cho’Gath, but that’s all part of his appeal.

Andrew Ryan

This Bioshock antagonist is ambitious, if not sometimes misguided and misunderstood (let’s just ignore all the pesky murder and population mind control for now, shall we?). Your interactions with the founder of Rapture, Andrew Ryan, take place under manipulative and stressful terms in the game, but it would be interesting to sit down and share a pot of tea with the man and hear the full story of the rise and fall of Rapture in his own words. Would you kindly pass the sugar?
