6 Sci-Fi Monsters We Want Godzilla to Battle Next

Godzilla is pitched as the “King Of The Monsters.” That is a massive claim for a giant lizard with tiny arms. Over the many years of Gojira’s existence, the god lizard has taken on giant moths, enormous turtles, and everyone’s favorite giant ape who doesn’t wear a tie, King Kong. Each encounter proves once more that it’s hard being the king. There is a new crop of monsters vying for the throne who have yet to physically take on the king. Here are six contenders for Godzilla to prove he deserves the crown.

Cloverfield Monster

I think this is the Cloverfield mama.

A new generation of monsters movies was born in 2008 when Bad Robot Productions released J.J. Abrams secret project, Cloverfield. The film stars a group of good-looking people trying to survive a monster attack. That is the least exciting aspect of the movie. The real star is the Cloverfield monster. The 300-foot tall behemoth terrorizes the city of New York. It does everything from destroying buildings, smashing screaming citizens, and knocking helicopters out of the sky. And it’s only the baby version of the monster!

Godzilla from the 2014 film clocks in at a whopping 350 feet tall, getting the height advantage in a potential throw down with the Cloverfield Monster. With its formidable fire breath, Godzilla is no slouch in this potential fight. The Cloverfield monster, however, demonstrates its resilience by surviving multiple bombings and attacks by the military. Its long limbs, and erratic nature could definitely pose a threat to the king lizard.

Pacific Rim’s Jaegers

All sorts of monster whoop ass.

It would be easy to pit Godzilla up against other Kaijū monsters. The Pacific Rim franchise has a much more interesting set of characters for Godzilla to face — the giant Kaijū-killing battle bots named Jaegers. These weaponized robot suits are built for the sole purpose of killing legendary, giant monsters from beneath the depths.

Godzilla has faced off against other robots before, but none dual-piloted by plucky young heroes. It would not be a stretch for Godzilla to show up in a Pacific Rim film, since it’s a Kaijū monster. It’s a tailor-made battle we need to see. The Jaegers have taken on formidable enemies like Knifehead and Raiju, but neither has the track record of our favorite giant lizard. While I do love Gypsy Danger, I have my money on Godzilla.

The Kraken

Release the Kraken indeed.

The Kraken is a monumental, mythological, undersea titan from Greek history. Pop culture has seen the tentacled monstrosity plague the protagonists of Pirates of the Caribbean, get a grand introduction from Liam Neeson in Clash of the Titans, and it looms in the depths of video games like Sea of Thieves from Rare. What’s one thing the Kraken has yet to conquer? Godzilla. Or is it the other way around?

How could they battle, you ask? Godzilla makes his home under the sea. The massive lizard emerges from the depths to take on its enemies — what is to stop the “King Of The Monsters” from fighting on the Kraken’s turf? An old fashion sea battle could put Godzilla to the test, as the Kraken employs multiple tentacled appendages to subdue and destroy. It could be Godzilla’s biggest test yet. Especially given the lizard’s tiny, tiny arms.

Titans of Attack on Titan

This would definitely be the creepiest crossover ever.

The Titans from Attack on Titan are a formidable, savage group of colossi. The beasts wreak havoc on the inhabitants of the last human district, munching and devouring the people within its walls. Overwhelmed by the sheer size and amount of them, humans pose little threat to these mindless titans.

Godzilla, however, could be a solid match for even the toughest Titan. The king lizard’s resilience and flame-powered mouth could pose a real problem for the Titans. Their overwhelming numbers could pose a problem for the single lizard, however. Never count Godzilla out, as he did manage to take on a couple of hostile M.U.T.O beasts at the same time — one being a mother. Anyone can tell you, never take on a mother when her kids are involved.

Godzilla (1998)

More T-Rex than overweight lizard.

The 2014 version of Godzilla was met with positive reviews. Not so much for the 1998 film version of the big lizard, scoring a 16% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 190 ft, hunched over version of Godzilla was a drastic departure from the classic Godzilla upright look and feel. It was a very different version of Gojira.

To settle which is the superior version, a meeting of the king lizards is in order. With a little movie magic, we can fudge the heights of each to bring them on a more level playing feel. Then, the two beasts can duke it out for lizard supremacy.

The Mind Flayer

Maybe this fight isn't as fair as I thought. Look at the size of that thing ...

The Mind Flayer is Stranger Things own Cthulhu-like beast. It rules the Upside Down with an iron tentacle, controlling Will Byers like an interdimensional puppet. The powers of the Mind Flayer are not fully known as of yet, but we do know it’s smart, huge, can control minds and bodies, and holds a grudge. Sounds like the perfect opponent for Godzilla.

The enormous, multi-legged beast may be able to control a horde of tiny alien critters, but can it stand up to the awesome might of Godzilla? A crossover of the two could spell disaster for anyone in the wake of these monsters. They would turn that alternate dimension … upside down.

Sorry about that one.
