5 Must-See Anime to Watch This February

February, for many, is a month of romance, remembrance and overdue New Year’s resolutions. So, why not kick this month off with a resolution we can all stick to like watching anime. Last month saw the premiere of many new anime shows. However, this doesn’t mean that February doesn’t have anything new to offer fans. Here are five anime shows and movies you should watch this February.

Spiritpact 2 (Ling Qi 2)

  • Premiere date: February 24
  • Studio: Haoliners Animation League
  • Genre: Action, Comedy, Supernatural, Magic, Shounen Ai

If it doesn’t come from Japan, does it still count as an anime? Right now, the answer doesn’t matter. After a successful first season and manhua run, Haoliners Animation League picked up Spiritpact 2  for a second adaptation. The Japanese dub of Spiritpact 2 releases this February.

The series will once again follow the relationship of You Keika — a dead, destitute young man — and Tanmoku Ki, the head of the “Youmeishi” group. This time, however, viewers will get to see what Tanmoku Ki was like before meeting You Keika. The series will also introduce several new characters, with one of them in possession of a secret that could change the lives of everyone.

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (Compilation Movies)

  • Premiere date: February 10 and 23
  • Studio: Sunrise
  • Genre: Action, Military, Sci-Fi, Super Power, Mecha, School

After almost ten years, a new season of Code Geass will premiere later this year. If you need a refresher on why Code Geass is one of the best anime ever, then the animation studio Sunrise has you covered. They compiled a film trilogy of both seasons. The first film, The Awakening Path, will receive a DVD and Blu-Ray on February 23rd. The second movie, The Rebellion Path, hits theaters on February 10th. (The third film debuts this March).

The film trilogy features remastered scenes and re-recorded dialogue from the original cast. We can’t wait to once again watch the very stoic Lelouch rise to power as the infamous Zero.

Let’s Decorate the Promised Flowers in the Farewell Morning

  • Genre: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy

Mari Okada’s (Anohanafilm Let’s Decorate the Promised Flowers in the Farewell Morning releases on February 24th. Not only will this be Mari Okada‘s first time in the director’s chair, but she’s also writing the script.

The movie takes place in a fantasy world where a race of people have discovered the secret to (what appears to be) immortality. Soon, an invading army destroys this peaceful society to steal their secret.

During the commotion, a young girl named Maquia escapes and ends up wandering the land alone. Along the way, she finds an orphaned baby and decides to raise him. However, as the years go by, the boy continues to grow up while Maquia remains the same.

Tokimeki Restaurant ☆☆☆ Miracle 6

  • Premiere date: February 10
  • Director: Chiaki Kon
  • Studio: Production I.G
  • Genre: Music, Romance

The mobile game Tokimeki Restaurant☆☆☆ is finally getting an anime film adaptation. The romance simulator has players take control of a new chef at a small restaurant. In addition to managing the establishment, players must also serve and romance the restaurant’s regulars — male idols.

Besides the main protagonist, the film will feature two idol groups, 3 Majesty and X.I.P., who compete for the attention of the female lead. From cooking to socializing, it will be interesting to see if Production I.G. can capture the magic of this dynamic game in a movie under two hours long.

Infini-T Force Movie: Gatchaman – Saraba Tomo yo

  • Studio: Digital Frontier
  • Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Seinen, Super Power

In celebration of Tatsunoko Production’s 55th anniversary, the studio will bring the heroes from Gatchaman, Casshan, Hurricane Polymar, and Tekkaman: The Space Knight together in a new 3DCG anime movie. The upcoming anime film, titled Infini-T Force Movie: Gatchaman – Saraba Tomo yo, will pick up where the television series left off.

After a long and intense battle with the malevolent Z, the heroes bid farewell to Emi. During their time together, the young woman comes to understand that there’s meaning in her life. With the help of her magic pencil, she becomes a hero herself. However, her journey doesn’t only take place in Japan. During the season finale, viewers got to see the young heroine and Ken fly off to another new adventure. The 3DCG movie will continue to follow the exploits of Tatsunoko’s heroes.
