5 Fierce Things You Must Do At RuPaul’s DragCon This Year

Adam Salandra

You know how every time you watch RuPaul’s Drag Race you wish you could just be there in the workroom having a kiki with the queens? Well, thanks to RuPaul’s DragCon, you just might get that chance!

Los Angeles’ fourth annual drag festival (which also came to New York for the first time last year), is returning to the L.A. Convention Center on May 11-13 and it’s promising us more queens than ever before.

With so much to see and do at the event, FANDOM is breaking down the five things you absolutely don’t want to miss if you’re attending this year.

Work The Cosplay Runway

Attention all cosplayers: Prep your superpowers and get ready to show off your best comic book or video game looks at the Gaymer Play Live event on May 12. The DragCon Runway will open up at 4:45 on Saturday, allowing fans to work their Cosplay Realness dressed as characters from comic books, video games, and anything else you can think of.

And that’s not the only event available for gaymers. Season 10 stunner Kameron Michaels will be part of the Gay for Play: Queer Culture & Video Game panel on Saturday discussing how queer culture and video games intertwine.

Sit on the Snatch Game Set

One of the coolest additions to this year’s DragCon is the installation of over 30 Insta-worthy photo opportunities all over the convention center floor. You’ll be able to pose inside the actual Season 10 workroom, sit on the judges’ panel alongside cutouts of RuPaul and Michelle Visage, and snap photos on the set of the Snatch Game. It’s hard to imagine a better way to make your squirrel friends jealous.

Vote for Vanjie in the Miss DragCon Pageant

Each night of DragCon ends with its own drag show full of death drops to make your jaw drop. Friday night will hold the Battle of the Runway, featuring all the queens from Season 10 facing off for a high-energy runway show hosted by Shangela. The World of Queens show takes place on Saturday night and will feature performances from fan favorites like Detox, Kim Chi, and Latrice Royale.

Sunday night will mark the debut of the first ever Miss DragCon Pageant, which will bring back the first eliminated queens from past Drag Race seasons to compete against one another. So, after weeks of those Miss Vanjie memes, you’ll finally have the opportunity to see Vanessa Mateo get another shot at the crown.

Snap a Selfie with Your Favorite Queen

Over 90 Drag Race contestants will be in attendance at this year’s convention, including Alaska, Aja, and All Stars 3 winner Trixie Mattel. All that star power means ample opportunities to meet your favorite queen, whether it’s at one of their panels, meet-and-greets, or merch booths. Even RuPaul herself will be available for a kiki, offering an opportunity to take a photo with Mother!

Watch a Live Taping of a WOW Web Series

One of the best parts of DragCon each year is getting to sit in on panels and get words of wisdom from your favorite queens and pop culture superstars. This year you’ll get a chance to hear what it’s like to be a returning contestant in a panel featuring Eureka and Cynthia Lee Fontaine, and learn all about the business of drag from an out-of-drag Katya.

But fans also get the opportunity to watch their favorite WOW web series come to life by attending a live taping of shows like “Cool Mom” with Jinkx Monsoon, Jasmine Masters’ Class, and Bro’Laska with Alaska and her brother, Corey.

But that’s just a small sampling of what you can get into at the giant three-day event. Head here for tickets and a full list of panels and parties at DragCon 2018.
