The Dark Tower trailer hit the net today, setting the scene for the biggest Stephen King adaptation yet. And while Matthew McConaughey is clearly channelling his inner badass as the Man in Black, it’s Idris Elba’s performance as Gunslinger Roland Deschain that’s got us most excited. And more specifically, the tricks he’s pulling off with his beloved guns.

1. Shooting From the Hip

While claiming that “There are no gunslingers” Roland rolls his pistol over the bullets on his belt, the action forcing them into his chamber for a speedy shot.

2. Lightening Load

In gravelly voiceover, The Gunslinger says “I do not aim with my hand. He who aims with his hand has forgotten the face of his father. I aim with my eye.” We witness Roland dropping bullets in his chamber with almost super-human speed, shooting at some unseen assailant, then jumping off a balcony and firing mid-dive.

3. Power-Slide

In an effort to take down the all-powerful Man in Black, The Gunslinger power-slides across the ground, shooting a glass ceiling in the process. It has little effect on the MiB however, as he halts the falling shards in mid-air.

4. Airbourne Load

Bullets fly through the air and Roland catches them in his Sandalwood Guns as the voiceover continues: “I do not shoot with my hand. I shoot with my mind.”

5. No-Look Shot

The Gunslinger raises his gun, then looks away, effectively firing blind. The bullet blasts through a window, cruises through a shirt hanging on a line, grazes the top of a bush, and smashes into his target’s head. “I do not kill with my gun” explains Roland at the end of his speech. “I kill with my heart.”

The Dark Tower hits US screens August 4 and will be released in the UK August 17.
