Goodbye summer, hello fall. The onset of cold, damp weather isn’t the only thing coming this season — a whole new batch of anime shows and movies are set to premiere as well. The fall 2017 anime season sees the return of some favorite shows, the arrival of the king of monsters, and a reboot of an iconic adventure. So, here are 15 anime series and movies you need to watch this fall.

Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond

  • Premiere date: October 8, 2017
  • Studio: Bones
  • Genre: Action, Superpower, Supernatural, Vampire, Fantasy

The equal-parts funny and bloody anime series, Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond returns for a second season this fall. The new cour will focus on the relationship between lead character, Leonardo Watch, and his little sister, Michella. The second season will give viewers more insight on the mysterious and powerful All-Seeing Eyes of God artifact that Leonardo received in Season 1.

Black Clover 

  • Premiere date: October 3, 2017
  • Studio: Studio Pierrot
  • Genre: Action, Comedy, Magic, Fantasy, Shounen

From the team that brought us Naruto, comes the highly-anticipated Black Clover. Due to the success of the manga which began serialization in Shonen Jump in early 2015, Studio Pierrot decided to adapt the fantasy series.

The anime follows orphans Asta, who has no magical powers, and Yuno, who has immense talents using magic, as they both aspire to become the Wizard King — the most powerful Magic Knight in the Clover Kingdom.

March Comes in Like a Lion Season 2

  • Premiere date: October 14, 2017

After receiving rave reviews from fans and critics, studio Shaft has decided to renew March Comes in Like a Lion for a second season.

The first season followed the young Rei, a professional shōgi (Japanese chess) player, and his relationships with a neighboring family. The second season continues where the first season left off and documents Rei’s progress and his relationship with others, more specifically with the Kawamoto sisters.

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters

  • Premiere date: November 17, 2017
  • Studio: Polygon Pictures
  • Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Fantasy

In August of last year, a teaser for the new anime adaptation of the King of Monsters came out with a promised premiere date of 2017. It’s been a year and finally Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters will make its debut this fall 2017 anime season. This is the third Godzilla animation and the first made by an anime studio. The studio involved, Polygon Pictures, previously made anime series Knights of Sidonia and Ajin: Demi-Human.

The CG anime movie will follow a group of humans who return to Earth only to find that Godzilla now rules the world. Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is the first film of a planned trilogy.

Food Wars! The Third Plate

Foodie fans can rejoice, Food Wars! returns for its third season this fall. Like previous seasons, the story will revolve around Sōma‘s journey at Tōtsuki Culinary Academy. In Season 3, he has to prove himself that he can be better than the Elite Ten Council. Let the hunger pangs begin!

Garo: Vanishing Line

  • Premiere date: October 7, 2017
  • Studio: MAPPA
  • Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Adventure, Fantasy

A new Garo adaptation is coming out this fall 2017 anime season, titled Vanishing Line. The new show is part of the Garo and Garo: The Animation franchise.

The third anime series will take place in the modern world with a man named Sword and a girl named Sophie who work together to investigate a mysterious plot with the only clue being the keyword “El Dorado.”

Just Because!

  • Premiere date: October 5, 2017
  • Studio: Pine Jam
  • Genre: School, Slice-of-life

Just Because! follows a group of students about to graduate from high school. However, as the end of the school year marks a time to reflect on the joyous moments of adolescents, the group realizes that they haven’t made any lasting memories. But, this all changes when an old classmate returns.

Inuyashiki Last Hero

  • Premiere date: October 13, 2017
  • Studio: MAPPA
  • Genre: Action, Sci-Fi, Psychological, Drama

From the creator of Gantz, Hiroya Oku, comes the psychological drama Inuyashiki Last Hero. After an extraterrestrial explosion, two men receive incredible powers. One uses his gift for good and the other to kill people. But, what’s most interesting about this fall 2017 anime series is that the hero is an elderly-looking man. Certainly not your typical superhero.

Attack on Titan: Lost Girls

While December is way off, an Attack on Titan special cannot be missed this fall.

Lost Girls will chronicle the origin stories of Annie Leonhart and Mikasa Ackerman. Hopefully, this will keep fans entertained until Attack on Titan Season 3 returns in 2018.

Girls’ Last Tour

  • Premiere date: October 6, 2017
  • Studio: White Fox
  • Genre: Adventure, Slice-of-Life

Travel to a post-apocalyptic world with the new anime show Girls’ Last Tour. The series tells the story of two young girls as they navigate through the ruins of civilization. The anime focuses on love, friendship and overcoming fear.

Konohana Kitan

  • Premiere date: October 4, 2017
  • Studio: Lerche
  • Genre: Slice-of-Life, Fantasy, Seinen, Shoujo Ai

Konohana Kitan is based on a manga series that went on a long hiatus in 2017. But now Japanese studio, Lerche, who also created Scum’s Wish and Persona 4: The Animation, are adapting the manga into an anime series.

On the boundary between the human and spirit world, Kitsune (fox spirits) run a little hot spring hotel. The Kitsune take human forms and attend to the daily chores of the hotel.

Juuni Taisen: Zodiac War

  • Premiere date: October 3, 2017
  • Studio: Graphinica
  • Genre: Adventure, Fantasy

From the studio that brought us Hellsing Ultimate and Arslan Senki comes a new fantasy adventure series, Juuni Taisen: Zodiac War. Based on a light novel of the same, we meet 12 warriors that each represent a different Chinese Zodiac sign. Pitted against each other, they must put everything on the line to receive just one wish, whatever it may be.

Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World — The Animated Series

  • Premiere date: October 6, 2017
  • Studio: Lerche
  • Genre: Action, Adventure, Slice-of-Life

This fall 2017 anime is a reboot based on the light novel series Kino no Tabi: The Beautiful World. Like the previous version, the anime follows the adventures of Kino and her talking motorcycle, Hermes. On their travels around the world, Kino and Hermes come across new people and different cultures.

King’s Game The Animation

  • Premiere date: October 5, 2017

  • Genre: Drama, Horror, Mystery, School, Supernatural

King’s Game The Animation combines the mystery of Danganronpa and sick twists of Future Diary into one creepy anime. Based on the mobile phone novel, Ōsama Game, students must play a dangerous game, whether they want to or not, where they receive a text message with instructions and they must obey. If they don’t, they risk being punished or worse.

Recovery of an MMO Junkie

  • Premiere date: October 10, 2017
  • Studio: Signal. MD
  • Genre: Game, Comedy, Romance

Based on the romantic comedy web manga, Recovery of an MMO Junkie, the anime follows Morioka Moriko, a 30-year-old NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) woman who is bored with the real world. To get a new sense of adventure, she turns to online games where she can be whoever she wants. But, soon real-world events start to alter her online world of bliss. What will become of Morioka’s online life?
